Beauty- Rules to Applying: Lipstick

Hey everyone! This is week 2 of the, "Rules to Applying," mini series. For this week's post, we are focusing on  applying lipstick. To see the previous post on how to apply your blush, click here. Enjoy! xoxo- The Glam Girls

Step 1: Prep your lips by applying chapstick. If your lips are especially dry, use a scrub and then use chapstick. Be sure to do this well enough in advance so that your lips can soak up the product.
Step 2: Choose a natural or sheer lipstick shade, this you can apply directly to lips from tube (no need to use lip brush). I like The Body Shop's Colourglide Lip color in shade 54 Pastel Rose. (The picture shows it much darker than it actually is. In reality, it is a nude color with pink undertones and shimmer.)
Step 3: Start with your lower lip and open your mouth slightly so that it is a flat plane, and not pressing against the upper lip.
Step 4: Dab or slowly glide the color onto the lower lip while staying within that natural border
Step 5: Follow steps 3 and 4 as directed above, but apply them to your upper lip.
Step 6: Once the color has been applied, use your finger (or lip brush) to smooth it out. You can rub your lips together, but just know that it could cause the color to smudge out of line, or end up in your cupids bow.
Now you have completed the steps for getting the perfect lipstick application. Read on to learn how to apply darker colors.

Step 1: Prep your lips by applying chapstick. If your lips are especially dry, use a scrub and then use chapstick. Be sure to do this well enough in advance so that your lips can soak up the product.
Step 2: Choose your favorite statement color such as a red, neon pink, or maroon. I know of one fabulous color by Laura Mercier. It is Laura Mercier Lipstick in Seduction.
Step 3: Take your lip brush and pack some of the color onto it.
Step 4: Use the same steps as you would apply any natural lip color, but be even more careful to stay inside the lines. We use a lip brush because it gives you more control over where the color goes. I suggest that you even go a slight bit inside the natural lip line, just because when you blend it out, you don't want it smudging or feathering.
Step 5: Use a clean finger, preferably a clean lip brush, and smooth/blend the color out by carefully dabbing or swiping over the lips.
